IKAT Is A Traditional Textile Dyeing And Weaving Technique Characterized By Intricate Patterns Created By Resist-Dyeing The Warp or Weft Threads Before Weaving. The Word "IKAT" Itself Is Derived From The Malay-Indonesian Word "MengIKAT", Meaning "To Tie" Or "To Bind", Referring To The Process Of Binding The Threads To Resist Dye Penetration. This Technique Results In Unique, Blurred Patterns On The Fabric.

For Warp IKAT, The Colored Yarn Is Spun Onto Bobbins And Pirns, For Weft IKAT, It Is Spun Onto Creels. The Warp Yarns Are Then Loaded Onto The Beam, Placed In The Loom, And Knotted To The Previous Threads On The Loom To Initiate The Weaving Process.

Traditionally Known As "Bandhakala", "Bandha", "Bandha Of Odisha", It Is A Geographically Tagged Product Of Odisha Since 2007. It Is Made Through A Process Of Tie-Dyeing The Warp And Weft Threads To Create The Design On The Loom Prior To Weaving.
